Bible
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:12, 1 Peter 1:23-25, 2 Peter 1:19-21).
God
We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 3:16-17, 28-29, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30, John 17).
Divinity and Humanity of Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33).
We believe that Jesus is God in the flesh and that He is both divine and human (Luke 1:26-38; John 14:1-3; Acts 2:36, 3:14-15; Phil. 2:5-12).
We believe in His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35).
We believe Christ lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4: 15, 7:26).
We believe in the saving power of the Blood of Jesus and His imputed righteousness (Acts 4:12; Romans 4:1-9; 5:1-11; Eph. 1:3-15).
We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ (Luke 24:39-43; John 20:24-29).
We believe that He ascended to the right hand of God (Mark 16:19), and that He will return in power and glory (Acts 1:11).
Man
We believe that man in his natural state is a sinner, lost, undone, without hope and without God (Romans 3:19-23; Gal. 3:22; Eph. 2:1-2, 12).
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1Cor 6:9-11)
Salvation
We believe that the terms of salvation are repentance toward God for sin and a personal, heartfelt faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which results in regeneration of the person by the spirit. This salvation is entirely by the grace of our Lord and not the work of man. Works are excluded except as FRUIT of Salvation (Ephesians 2:1-10).
Sanctity of Human Life
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage of condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Psalm 139)
Separated Life
We believe that believers should seek, as the early disciples did, to practice the separated life from the world and unto Christ Jesus and to set standards of conduct which shall exalt our Lord and His Church (Romans 12:1-3; 2 Corinthians 6:17; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 5:11).
Marriage, Sexuality, and Gender (expanded statement in Handbook)
We believe that the term marriage has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture (Genesis 2:18–25).
We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2–5; Hebrews 13:4).
We believe that God's command is that there be no sexual intimacy outside of or apart from marriage between a man and a woman.
We believe that God wonderfully foreordained and immutably created each person as either male or female in conformity with their biological sex. These two distinct yet complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26–27).
STATEMENT
of Non-Denominational Position
Cedars of Lebanon Academy’s Statement of Faith is fundamental to basic Christian tenets and contains those doctrines to which we unreservedly adhere and teach. COLA does not promote or endorse any particular denomination. It is our desire to maintain this position and to do so in all fairness to each family. In the case where biblical doctrine is brought up in class to which the student and family may not agree, the student is encouraged to search out the whole counsel of God’s Word in this area but ultimately students will be referred back to the family, their church and the Word of God for final authority (Acts 20:18-21). Additionally, we will require respectful dialogue when subjects and beliefs arise that can hold denominational importance for some students, families and churches, recognizing God’s inspired Word as our standard for truth. We desire to remain united in our common salvation, love of Christ and our Statement of Faith, avoiding the dissension that can be caused by certain denominational distinctives. While avoiding unnecessary offense, we always want to remain open to being challenged by the study and proper division of the Word of God (2 Tim. 2:14-15). Each student will be encouraged to set apart Christ as Lord in their heart and to always be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks them to give an account for the hope that is in them with gentleness and reverence (1 Peter 3:15).
STATEMENT
of Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct
Cedars of Lebanon Academy’s Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of COLA’s policies and discipline, People of the Living God, as the sponsoring church, holds final interpretive authority on biblical meaning and application.
*Our Statement of Faith is not exhaustive of all of our beliefs. The Bible, as the inspired and infallible Word of God, speaks with absolute authority regarding the proper conduct of mankind and is the unchanging foundation for all belief and behavior.
